The MTA Karate Academy is very proud of our
students and their accomplishment both in and out of the dojang. Our
focus during the New Year, in addition to fine tuning our karate will be
on academics. It pleases us to do our first profile of 2002 on
Warren Crowder(front row, center).

Warren Crowder was recently named Captain of the Beaver
Dam Elementary School Battle of the Books Team. His team competed in
cluster III on February 26, 2002 and took 1st place over five other
competing teams. The team went on to compete in the county finals at
Fayetteville State University on March 7, 2002. But thats not all...Warren
won in the North Carolina Reading Association's Young Author's
competition. His was the only entry for 5th grade from Cumberland
County that was sent on to state judging. This is Warren's first state
level writing award. He and the other winners will be honored at a
reception at UNC-P at a date to be announced later this year.
Congratulations Warren!!! We salute you for the fine example you set
both in and out of the dojang. We expect great things from you, keep
up the good work!

Warren Crowder is a 5th grader at
Beaver Dam Elementary School. He is a Straight\-A student this year, as
in previous years, and has achieved honors certifications in the
Accelerated Reader/Reading Renaissance program, averaging 150 points
each 9-weeks. He won numerous awards for meeting AR/RR goals each
grading period.
This fall his art teacher entered one of his
drawings in the Cumberland County Fair, and Warren won a 1st
place ribbon and a cash award in his division.
His prose entry in the Cross Creek Reading
Council’s Fall Young Author’s Contest was chosen as the only 5th
grade entry from the county to go to statewide Young Author’s
competition. Warren has also won awards for his poetry in two Spring
Young Author’s Competitions. He won an Honorable mention in the first
grade and 1st place in the third grade. This is his first
fall competition.
Warren is a member of the school’s Battle of the
Books Team for the second year, is a Media Assistant in the school’s
media center, and is a violin student in the school’s Strings Program.
Warren is also a Brown Belt candidate, an academic achiever, a SWAT Team

of Warren’s achievements and the good example that he sets for the newer
students at the MTA Karate Academy. Keep up the good work!!
