NCAAU Taekwondo Fall Tournament

The NC AAU Taekwondo Fall Tournament will be held on November 20, 2004 at the Kiwanis Recreation Center at 352 Devers St. Fayetteville, NC . The tournament will begin at 10:00am. If you need any additional information or need an application please see Mr. Garris. igarris@aol.com


2005 Nationals
National AAU Youth and Adult Taekwondo Championship

The 2005 National Championship will be held from July 5th – 9th , 2005 in Greensboro, North Carolina. For more information please contact Mr. Garris or you may visit the AAU Taekwondo website. http://www.aautaekwondo.org Be sure to make hotel reservations early. Remember all participants must be AAU members and must qualify at the State Qualifier.

The following seven students competed in the 2004 Universal Martial Arts Championships in Lancaster, S.C. on March 13, 2004.  As usual, our students were very competitive and brought home 15 trophies.  Included in the trophies were five six foot 1st place trophies.  The students that competed traditional events were:

Again, Congratulations to these students on their outstanding performance. There were nearly 2500 competitors at the AAU National Championship with divisions as large as 57 students, making competition quite challenging. We also thank the Parents and all of the MTA family and supporters that rallied together to make this journey to the Nationals a fruitful one.

NORTH CAROLINA AAU TAEKWONDO NATIONALS QUALIFIER

Congratulations to the MTA Karate Academy students on their magnificent performance at the NC State AAU Taekwondo Nationals Qualifier! 18 MTA students competed in the 2004 AAU State Championship on Saturday May 1, 2004 and captured total of 26 medals including 12 Gold, 11 Silver and 3 Bronze. Every MTA student that competed, qualified for the 2004 AAU Taekwondo Nationals in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on July 6th –July 10th. This was a record breaker for a team that already had an excellent track record. The students that competed were:

Marisa Maher dominated the red belt division capturing two gold medals while Corey Williams also a red belt captured one gold and one silver medal with a performance that fell nothing short of awesome. Eiryn Elliott the youngest green belt at the tournament easily captured the gold medal in kata with a stunning performance of Pyong Ahn EE Dan. Jessica Deane and Gloria Rapp both captured the gold medal in kata at their very first tournament competition. Several 2003 Nationals champions competed at the tournament. Congratulations to all of our athletes on their fine performance!

AAU NATIONALS RESULTS

The following six students competed in the 2003 AAU Nationals at the World’s Fair Center in Knoxville, Tennessee on July 2-5, 2003. Our students were very competitive and brought home six medals as an affirmation of their commitment and hard work.

Those students that did not place in Kumite were very competitive and in every case except one, their opponent went on to capture 2nd place. Tiffany King’s match was tied and went into sudden death. Marisa Maher won the respect of every competitor in her field and the spectators with her excellent demonstration of Tang Soo Do sparring technique and Kevin Kane dominated his match during the entire 1st round. Six students attended the Nationals and six medals were captured. Eiryn Elliott and Billie Long captured medals in both kata and kumite. Eiryn truly demonstrated focus and technique far beyond her years during her kata competition. Our students were competing with the best Taekwondo and Tang Soo Do stylist in the country. 1,658 martial artists from every state in the nation except Alaska competed in this tournament. There were over 6,000 people in attendance. All competitors had to qualify at a state tournament to be eligible for participation in the Nationals. Some athletes spend their entire career trying to accomplish what these athletes have accomplished at such a young age. Congratulations to all of our athletes on their outstanding performance!

The MTA Karate Academy is proud to announce that Classical Okinawan Kobudo will be available to our students this summer. Sensei John W. Jackson, Jr., Renshi Rokudan Uechi Ryu Karate Do, and Chairman of the Nintaikan Dobudo Kai will be the instructor. Classes will be taught in six (6) week sessions and will commence with an introduction to the Bo.

February 15, 2003, seven on our MTA students competed in the Union County Classic at Wingate University in Monroe, NC. .  Marisa Maher a 2nd Gup(Red Belt) who has been sidelined with 2 broken toes for the past 6 weeks and could only compete in Kata competition completely shut out the Black Belt competitors to capture 1st place in traditional Kata.  Our only other Brown Belt competitor in that age group, Ashley Means captured 3rd place.  Both Ashley and Marisa were competing with top quality black, red and brown belts.  Corey Williams, our only other 4th Gup (brown belt) to compete captured 1st place in traditional Kata and 2nd place in Kumite in his division.  Corey had to defeat a very competitive Red Belt to capture 2nd place in Kumite.  Lucas Mireles, Blake Heyrmen, Craig Curry and Kevin Kane, all Orange Belts took 5th place in both Kumite and Kata.  Congratulations to all of the students that competed in the Union County Classic.  You all did an outstanding job!!  I got several compliments on the quality and state of your art.  Keep up the good work!!

On September 27,2002 the MTA Karate Academy participated in the Fall Classic 2002, an AAU sanctioned Tae Kwon Do/Ju Jitsu tournament.
